WSU GEAR UP Partnerships
GEAR UP prepares and encourages students to enter and succeed in college by providing:
For Students:
- Early interventions beginning in middle school
- Tutoring during and after school
- Enriched technology-based curriculum, especially in reading, writing, and math
- Campus visits
- Motivational speakers
- Support from middle school through high school
For Parents:
- Parent Involvement programs
- Leadership training
- Facilitating grass-roots community development
- Educational classes on topics including: courses required for college, college entrance exams, helping your child pass the WASL, setting high academic expectations for your children
- Workshops on: paying for college, applying for college and financial aid, writing the college application essay, and selecting a college
For Teachers:
- Staff development in areas such as ESL and reading endorsement
