Moses Lake Class of 2012 is ready for high school!

Frontier and Chief Moses students getting to know eachotherNext fall, the class of 2012 will enter the halls of MLHS. Thanks to the collaboration of GEAR UP, MLHS, Chief Moses and Frontier middle schools, that transition won’t be quite as terrifying.  On May 13th all of the 8th graders from both middle schools met at MLHS for a fun program put on by the high school leadership class.  Students were quickly split up into groups according to their birthday month.  Next, students were asked to line up according to the day they were born.  This allowed students from both schools to intermingle and get to know each other.

After the students were settled in their groups they were introduced to Mr. Jones the freshman counselor, Mr. Balcom the high school principal and other important staff members they will be working with.  The incoming freshmen watched skits on “what not to do”, met their ASB officers for next year, learned the fight song, and were able to ask questions in a small group format.  This was a great opportunity for Chief Moses and Frontier students to come together in preparation for next year.

When asked if the day’s program helped her prepare for next year, Brianna A. said “One thing I am worried about is my grades but today helped me feel less worried.”  When asked if this is a program that should be brought back next year, Kimberly B. said, “Yes, students can get to feel more comfortable in the high school.”  Thanks to the MLHS leadership class and GEAR UP for an awesome introduction to high school.
