Sophomores at Clarkston High School have a wonderful opportunity ahead of them, AP classes. AP, or advanced placement, is a type of high school course that offers college level courses and exams that helps students to better prepare for post-secondary education. These classes have always been offered at CHS, but until recently with limited numbers. This year, with the help of GEAR UP, Clarkston will be adding at least six new AP courses available mainly to our OVP II cohort. These classes include AP Language, AP Calculus, AP Stats, AP Chemistry/Physics, and AP Biology. There are also a few new classes being added that will affect our current sophomores when they are seniors such as AP Government, a class that all seniors are required to take, and now have the opportunity to earn a little credit for.
AP is a great choice for high school students because it helps them to stand out during the college application process without adding too much to their high school load. It also keeps them on campus, as opposed to running start which is typically located at the nearest sponsoring college. We are excited to be involved in this great opportunity for Clarkston High School, and look forward to the students using our study center when they need a little extra help in these advanced courses!
