Meet Our New CBSS GEAR UP Tutors!

Mariah PalmenMariah Palmen: Mariah is a 21 years old who graduated from Moses Lake High in 2010. While in high school, she participated in the sports med program, which piqued her interest in massage therapy. After graduation, she enrolled in a massage therapy course and, 10 months and a big exam later, she obtained her massage therapist’s license. Mariah is a very busy person. In addition to GEAR UP tutoring and massage therapy, she has an evening job, and is the proud pet-parent of a German shepherd puppy, Area (Ar-ee).

Mariah is extremely talented at math and completed through Pre-Calculus in high school. She now uses these math skills to tutor students in the CBSS media lab two periods a day and provides math tutoring services during the GEAR UP After School Homework Center.

Amy DelpAmy Delp: Amy, 30-years old, was born and raised in Moses Lake.  She and her husband just celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary and have three children. They have two biological children a boy age 7 and a girl age 5; they are also raising her half-sister, age 15.

Being a mother is her number one priority, but, in addition to being a part time GEAR UP tutor at Columbia Basin Secondary School, she also teaches preschool 2 days per week. Both positions easily fit into her children’s school days, so she can still be there for them. However, this January she will begin evening classes at Heritage University to finish her teaching degree.

Amy, Cora, Lana, Jen, Lydia, MariahShe took her first college class 12 years ago as a Running Start student at Big Bend Community College and has been working off and on to achieve her goal of becoming a teacher ever since. In the meantime, she has worked in many educational settings and served two years as an Americorps member.  Amy says “I am looking forward to working at CBSS this year not only to help the students achieve their goals but also to gain some valuable experience myself!”

Amy tutors in CBSS’s Anatomy and Physiology, Freshman Communications and Health Occupations classes.

Welcome to our great CBSS GEAR UP Staff!
