GAINING EARLY AWARENESS AND READINESS FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS (GEAR UP)

Welcome to WSU Early Outreach

GEAR UP Ambassadors are changing the face of GEAR UP at Moses Lake High School

In August, 15 junior and senior students from Moses Lake High School traveled to Eastern Washington University to spend four days learning how to be a GEAR UP student ambassador. Over these four busy days the students went through the student ambassador workbook, participated in team building and leadership activities, and had some fun getting to know each other.

The students worked hard to learn about GEAR UP’s history, what our grant goals and objectives are, how our cohort system works, created group norms and a mission statement, and strategized ways to promote and recruit for GEAR UP activities and events.

Since getting trained our GEAR UP student ambassadors have been very busy at Moses Lake High School.  They have started our GEAR UP club, promoted GEAR UP events at registration, hosted a GEAR UP Family BBQ, created a promotional commercial, promoted and led activities for National GEAR UP Week, and have helped with our evening parent college knowledge workshops.

Our student ambassadors are changing the face of GEAR UP at Moses Lake High School and are doing a fabulous job of promoting GEAR UP and college readiness for all.  Great job Hannah, Quennie, Perla, Phillip, Jamilett, Kim, Elayne, Maira, Rosa, Marco, Edgar, Chris, Brahiam, and Francisco!  You are exemplar student ambassadors!
